On December 15, 2021, an MoU on music development was signed between the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and Olympia School in Hanoi.

The online and offline signing ceremony marked the cooperation between both sides in facilitating students at the Olympia School to approach an internationally-standardised music assessment system, foster and develop musical passion among the students while helping them have better opportunities for development after graduation.

The MoU also help the two sides to build up their partnership via joint activities. The activities will be deployed synchronously with gradual application in AMEB ’s books and curricula in the teaching of music at the Olympia School. This will be suitable to all study levels.

The activities will also include training courses with AMEB certificates and examinations, as well as music events. All activities will supplement one another via concrete annual plans.

Olympia is the first school with which AMEB has signed a cooperation deal within the Vietnamese school system.

Nguyen Tuong Phuong, CEO of Olympia, said both Olympia and AMEB are connected by their passion to bring high-quality, international-standard music education to the community and every Olympia student in different ways and levels. This cooperation comes at a time when the school is trying to bring the music education programme to a new level, meeting international standards.

According to Phuong, music has been given special attention to since the school was founded more than 14 years ago. The school’s experienced and qualified music teachers and a music programme have helped students access a variety of musical instruments and genres in both regular hours and clubs, events, as well as the school’s international-standard theatre and modern music complex with a total area of ​​nearly 1,000 square metres. This is vivid evidence of the school’s commitment to fostering a personalised and balanced growth environment for all students, helping them unlock their talents and connect with the world through music.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Bernard Depasquale, CEO of AMEB, affirmed, “We look forward to the first exchanges between Australia and Vietnam. At that time, Vietnamese teachers and students, including Olympia teachers and students, will visit Australia. Our teachers and students will visit Vietnam. We have a lot to cooperate with and share in teaching and learning.”

He emphasised, “The Australian and Vietnamese governments have been working and will work closely to enhance trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Today’s event and upcoming collaborations between AMEB and Olympia will contribute to this close partnership between the two countries.”

With the cooperation with Olympia School, AMEB has affirmed its desire to contribute to the development of music in Vietnam, after great efforts and results from cooperation since it officially set foot in the country in 2018. Its big partners include Vietnam National Academy of Music, Hue Conservatory, National University of Art Education, Hanoi Art College, and some other universities, as well as many music centres and units nationwide. Thousands of Vietnamese students have participated in AMEB examinations over the past more than three years.

AMEB is not only recognised in Australia, but also highly valued throughout the world. After more than 100 years of operation, AMEB has organised over seven million exam papers. In Australia, AMEB orgnises more than 95 per cent of music examinations in collaboration with over 20,000 teachers in more than 5,000 schools.

In addition, AMEB also provides comprehensive and diversified curricula including 42 curricula on musical instruments such as piano, classical guitar, violin, cello, flute, and saxophone, and vocal music types such as singing, singing for leisure, and musical theatre. All of which are suitable to all people.
