A Graduation ceremony no one was ready to leave

23 April, 2026

Perhaps what truly makes us grow up is not a diploma, nor the moment we step off the stage after the tassel-turning ceremony quietly closes a chapter of school life.
It is when the most ordinary things suddenly become “the last time.”
The last time sitting in a familiar classroom.
The last time wearing the white school uniform among faces that have walked beside us for so many years.
And the last time calling one another together like this.

The K12 Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2026 unfolded in a way that felt uniquely their own - not overly emotional, not filled with tearful embraces like people often imagine a school farewell to be. Instead, there was laughter everywhere, playful exchanges on stage, and moments that were both funny and endearingly innocent - so unmistakably 2K8. They still teased one another on stage; still burst into laughter while watching old videos together; still called out to each other just to take one more photo, or stand side by side for a little longer.

Yet amidst all those lively moments, there were still quiet pauses that made everyone’s hearts tighten just a little.
It was when each student stepped forward to receive their high school completion certificate.
It was when teachers read messages for every student with immense love and pride.
It was when K12 lingered on stage long after the ceremony should have ended, asking to replay the videos of their youth again and again - as if trying to hold on to their school days beneath the Purple School roof just a little longer.

To their teachers, the graduating Class of 2026 is a generation filled with colors - lovable, vibrant, and wonderfully unique. There were students and classes who pushed themselves fiercely and achieved remarkable accomplishments; there were introverts, dreamers, “forever-young souls,” and leaders who devoted themselves wholeheartedly to every shared activity.

Some students only came to Olympia a few years ago. Others have grown up with the Purple School since kindergarten or primary school. Through all those years, Olympia became “like a diary,” holding onto the most important moments of an Olympian’s youth: first friendships, nights of pressure and tears, arguments followed by reconciliation, and tiny moments of affection that will one day return as warm smiles in memory. Yesterday’s Graduation Ceremony was not only a milestone for K12 to look back on how far they had come, but also a farewell to the version of themselves they still could not bear to leave behind - even until the very last moments of the program.
Today, perhaps every K12 Olympian carries within them a quiet sense of uncertainty, a little emptiness, and a little lingering sadness as they realize their school years have truly come to an end.
But dear K12, always remember this: this school, these teachers, these friends, and every memory made here… will forever remain a loving place to return to. No matter where life takes you or how long you are away, the Purple School will always be here - quietly supporting you and waiting with open arms for your return.
