Excellent Olympian reaches the finals of the world's most challenging essay competition
07 August, 2024
August marks the beginning of a new school year, bringing with it the promise of flourishing achievements for Olympia’s teachers and students. On the first day of this new academic year, we received exciting news about Olympian Nguyễn Hà Thanh Lâm (8th grade) who has successfully reached the finals of "The John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize 2024".
This competition is recognized as one of the most challenging international essay competitions due to its high academic standards and rigorous judging process. Only a small number of tens of thousands of contestants from hundreds of countries make it to the finals of this platform, which helps high school students develop deep and broad thinking, critical perspectives, and knowledge in fields such as philosophy, politics, law, economics, history, and psychology.
Choosing the question "When will advanced technology make most of us unemployed? What should we do about this issue?", Olympian Nguyễn Hà Thanh Lâm eloquently presented his views in a sharp essay of about 2,000 words. The global knowledge and understanding gained from English classroom lessons and projects, along with his experience participating in the international TSL essay competition, enabled the Olympian to clearly and impressively convey his perspective.
After passing two rigorous selection rounds, Nguyễn Hà Thanh Lâm has made it to the finals of "The John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize 2024". Here, his essay will continue to be judged by a panel of philosophers and senior academics from top universities such as Oxford, Princeton, and Cambridge to determine the awards and winners.
This September, the Olympian will fly to London to attend the award ceremony. Let's look forward to more updates from Thanh Lâm and congratulate him and his mentor, Ms. Trần Thu Trang, Olympia English teacher, on their impressive initial results!
