Math Olympiad 2026: Olympians use Mathematics to prevent and address the impact of natural disasters

08 February, 2026

This is more than just an English-based Math competition. Math Olympiad 2026 unfolds a gripping scenario: a city on the brink of being submerged by rising sea levels, with a tsunami fast approaching… And our middle and high school Olympians must use Mathematics to devise solutions to prevent and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters.

Across three intense rounds, students faced challenging problems, thinking quickly and accurately while collaborating effectively to find optimal solutions and shift the course of events in critical moments. The atmosphere throughout Math Olympiad this year was tense and thrilling, yet equally vibrant, energetic, and filled with excitement.

In Round 1, teams worked together to solve a series of problems to uncover a secret code and activate the dam system. This round demanded speed, sharp focus, and the ability to perform under high pressure. In Round 2, Olympians applied their knowledge of geometry, ratios, and probability to solve puzzles and build strategies to confront the approaching tsunami. In the final round, teams tackled the mission of determining the most effective plan to allocate and deliver relief supplies to communities affected by the disaster.
