Nguyen Phuong Thao - gold medalist at the 2024 International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO)

On the evening of October 5th, at the award ceremony of the 2024 International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) in China, the name "Nguyen Phuong Thao" stood out on the screen, listed as a Gold Medalist in Mathematics. Olympian Phuong Thao and her teammates helped Vietnam achieve first place in Mathematics – tied with Singapore – in this prestigious international competition, which attracted 300 students from 18 participating countries.
"We did it!" – a short but deeply proud statement from Olympia's Mathematics team when Phuong Thao received the competition’s highest honor.
"The achievement you've attained is not just a brilliant Gold Medal, but a strong affirmation of your perseverance, determination to pursue your dreams, and deep love for Mathematics. Your teachers are proud of you, of your accomplishments, and especially of your optimistic spirit, always ready to embrace challenges with curiosity and excitement. It is Phuong Thao's openness and enthusiasm that inspired and energized us throughout the teaching process," shared Ms. My Anh, one of the teachers who accompanied Phuong Thao in preparation for IMSO.
To prepare for the national and international round, despite the rigorous schedule, according to Mr. Tran Quoc Dan, Head of the Mathematics Department, Phuong Thao studied with passion and ease. She demonstrated sharp and quick thinking, a high level of focus, and consistently attempted to approach Math problems in diverse and creative ways.
Expressing her deep gratitude to Olympia’s Mathematics teachers, who diligently coached her throughout the process, Phuong Thao said: "Their support was the strength that helped me achieve results beyond my expectation. I feel more confident and honored to have studied with such great teachers," the Olympian remarked.
