Olympia Alumni talk: University insights – Lessons then and now
12 October, 2025
Under the theme “Lessons Then and Now”, this Alumni Talk for Grade 12 students brought forward authentic and heartfelt reflections from three generations of Olympia alumni — each following a different path, yet all connected by the same spirit of initiative, perseverance, and courage to step beyond their comfort zone to grow.
From preparing applications, choosing a major, to adapting to university life and discovering true passion, each guest shared their own story — filled with early missteps, small regrets, and a sense of pride when looking back at how far they’ve come.

Representing three distinct journeys — diplomacy, fashion design, and international hospitality — Chu Vân Yến (Alumni 2007), Lại Đức Mạnh (Alumni 2001), and Đào Quang Huy (Alumni 2000) exemplified the Olympia spirit of being proactive, open to challenges, and always eager to learn.
From his perspective as a fashion brand founder, Đức Mạnh shared: “Passion only becomes a career when you’re good at it, when society needs it, and when you can live from it. The key is not to start big, but to dare to start.”
Meanwhile, Quang Huy, with his journey in the hospitality industry, offered a simple yet powerful reminder: “This field isn’t easy, but if you truly love it — give it a try and don’t give up. The early struggles are exactly what help you grow every day.”

After the talk, Grade 12 Olympians walked away not only with a clearer understanding of university preparation, but also with the realization that university is not a destination — it’s a beginning. A chance to explore who they are and to build a life of purpose, courage, and passion.
Our heartfelt thanks to the alumni who returned to Olympia, bringing back valuable lessons and inspiration for the next generation.
See you at the next Alumni Talk!
