The co-founder and CEO of Ejoy - Bui Diep conducts a class with 10QT Olympians

Applying acquired knowledge and skills into real-world scenarios makes the lessons for 10QT Olympians of the U.S. High School Diploma Program incredibly exciting.
This school year, the Olympians are exploring and practicing problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative skills. They will use these skills to design a game app aimed at raising awareness about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Beyond independently discovering various design platforms, 10QT Olympians had a special session with Ms. Bùi Điệp, Co-founder and CEO of the eJOY English learning app.
In this session, the students were divided into two groups: one represented potential customers, and the other was tasked with building a language-learning app. The group with the app product then had to convince the potential customers to purchase it. This role-playing exercise was Ms. Điệp's way of blending her entrepreneurial journey of building eJOY with the application of design thinking principles in running the startup, which now serves 2 million users worldwide in improving their English and personal development.
The Olympians gained invaluable insights from Ms. Điệp’s experiences, including learning about design thinking, gathering customer feedback, and balancing different perspectives to improve product quality.
Through their various roles-negotiators, researchers, product designers—the students also deepened their understanding of potential career paths.
Ms. Bui Diep shared, “Before coming here, I thought that just having Olympians all actively participate would already be a success. But I didn’t even get the chance to 'instruct' them because they were able to summarize the key lessons on their own during the hour-long session of creative thinking and problem-solving. I was even more surprised when they not only realized the importance of listening to the customer before creating a product but also discovered that “customers don’t always know what they need. So just listening isn’t enough; you also need to test the product with customers and observe how they interact and respond to it to optimize the product accordingly."
