2 Olympians selected to join the Vietnam International Team for the International Math and Science Olympic

Great news has just arrived for the students at Olympia Middle School, as the list of 24 contestants for the Vietnam national team competing in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) has been announced. Among those names are Nguyen Phuong Thao (class 6H3) and Pham Minh Vu (class 6H1) from The Olympia Schools. Both have been selected to represent the national team in the Science board. To become national representatives in the IMSO, which attracted around 700 students from over 30 countries each year, Phuong Thao and Minh Vu had to overcome two challenging rounds entirely in English.

In the first round, the contestants took an online test to select the top 50 students with the highest scores in Mathematics and Science to proceed to the second round where they took paper exams. The students were in the top 12 students with the highest scores in the Science board and were selected for the international round of IMSO.

Sharing her pride about the students, Ms. Duong Thi Thu Hien, Vice-Head of the Science Department, couldn't hide her excitement. She mentioned that there were 14 students from grade 5 and 6 participated in the first round of the Science board. These students are passionate about science and share a strong spirit of striving for excellence.

To support the students, all the teachers in the Science Department offered individual tutoring for each student one week before the first round. "Although the amount of material was extensive and challenging, the students made efforts to learn and absorb new knowledge. As a result, after the first round, four students advanced to the second round, and two were selected for the national team. We are so proud of them", shared Ms. Duong Thi Thu Hien.

Sending a special wish to the two Olympian - Nguyen Phuong Thao and Pham Minh Vu. Ms. Hien stated that the teachers in the Olympia Science Department would continue to accompany them throughout the preparation process. The international round of the IMSO 2023 will take place in November. Let's all wish Phuong Thao and Minh Vu the best of luck!
