A warm and sharing mid-autumn festival of Olympians
03 October, 2024
Mid-Autumn Festival – a traditional celebration in Vietnam – is also an occasion for students to learn more about the values of reunion, love, and sharing. This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival at Olympia was different from previous years. Everything was organized simply, to save for supporting those in flood-affected areas. Even though the celebrations took place only within individual classes, the Mid-Autumn Festival for each Olympian was still filled with warmth and love.
The students came together to make lanterns and mooncakes, listen to fascinating stories about traditional Mid-Autumn festivities, and share their own Mid-Autumn memories. This year’s fruit offerings were modestly arranged with a simple spirit: “whatever fruits you have at home, bring them to contribute.” One little preschooler even humorously brought chilies and kohlrabi.
Though the Mid-Autumn Festival was full of joy, Olympians shared empathy with those in the flood-affected areas. In the days leading up to the festival, they collected books, stories, candies, and toys, which teachers will soon deliver to children in Hoa Binh, Thai Nguyen, and Yen Binh. Many good wishes for peace have been personally written by Olympians and affixed to the “giant” star lantern made of paper and bamboo.
More than just a cultural festival, Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 is an opportunity for Olympians to learn how to share and spread love.
