Jack Ryan Baker will head to Sydney to realize his goal of becoming a hotel manager
08 August, 2024
Possessing a devotion to improving and developing the quality of hotels as well as connecting with large corporations, Jack Baker has decided to study Hospitality and Management in university. From August 2023 he spent a great amount of time in his application process, then getting accepted into two prestigious institutions in this field: ICMS - International College of Management (Sydney, Australia), ranked #1 in Tourism and Hospitality; Le Cordon Blue (Sydney, Australia).
The Olympian has chosen ICMS as his destination because this is a university that boasts a high quality in management education - their specialty. At the same time, he is impressed with the institution’s unique location - a “castle” with a lot of waterfronts.
Although the journey of submitting his application was riddled with challenges like writing a personal statement for a scholarship, Jack proved himself a tenacious and effortful student. “The hardest thing was the long nights of writing personal statements for scholarships and visas. I recall having to discard them all since they weren’t in the correct outline. However, after nights of editing, I finally arrived at the one I was pleased with”, he shared. The Olympian humbly views himself as “lucky” when he received the reply letter with the result he wanted.
For him to achieve those admirable results, the activities, lessons and projects at Olympia have played crucial roles. The highlight he could never forget was the product showcase of the English subject called Olympia’s Voice, in which he was one of 8 selected students in the entire grade 11 to deliver an outstanding speech about perseverance - “Perseverance - Fundamentals to Success”. Meanwhile, his participation in the organization of Math Olympiad or the project to build libraries for primary school students in Ha Giang prepared him for later stages of life.
“To me, Olympia is like a second home,” the Olympian shared about his 12-year bond with the Purple school. “Olympia is where I grew up and matured, where I got to meet dear friends and teachers who are always willing to help when I’m in need, where I was prepared for future adventures,” he added.
The day the enthusiastic, positive and out-going student takes off to Australia is close, and Jack Baker is confident in displaying his talents in the university environment. We hope the Olympian will become a manager of a hotel business in the near future!
