Olympian Nguyen Phuong Thao joins the national team for the international mathematics and science Olympiad
16 September, 2024
Exciting news has just arrived for Olympia School, as Nguyễn Phương Thảo (class 7H3) has recently become one of the 12 contestants in the national team for Mathematics at the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) 2024. Last school year, Thảo won a Silver Medal in Science at this prestigious international competition, which attracts around 700 students from over 30 countries each year.
This year, switching to Mathematics, the Olympian had to overcome two tough rounds of challenges, with all tests conducted entirely in English. In the first round, the contestants took an online test, and the top 20 scorers in each subject, Mathematics and Science, advanced to the second round. In the second round, held in person with handwritten essay-based exams, the top 12 scorers in each subject earned the opportunity to represent the national team in the international IMSO round, which will take place in China soon.
Congratulations to Phương Thảo, and to the dedicated efforts of both her and the Mathematics department at Olympia Middle School for achieving such a well-deserved result. We hope that in the international round, she will continue to succeed and have enriching experiences in this prestigious academic competition!
