Continuing the journey of "Touch the Past - Connect the Future" - an interdisciplinary project involving History, Geography, Fine Arts, and English, last week, 7th-grade Olympians had a 2-day-1-night experiential study trip to Ninh Binh province. The purpose was to explore and spread the cultural and historical values of the Vietnamese people.
"Touch the Past - Connect the Future" is a long-term study project spanning one academic year, divided into two parts corresponding to two semesters. Each semester consists of five stages. In the first stage of this semester, Olympians were introduced the foundational knowledge in three subjects: History, Fine Arts, and Geography. They learned about the historical context of the country during the periods of the Ngo, Dinh, Early Le, and Ly dynasties, the changes in the handicraft industry, specifically the pottery craft in the Bồ Bát village, and the art of the Ly period.
Especially, this journey back to the ancient land also provided an opportunity for 7th-grade Olympians to meet, exchange, and connect with new friends at Truong Yen Secondary School (Ninh Binh). Prior to this, Olympia students and Truong Yen students had an online exchange class to learn about the Hoa Lu region and Thang Long. On the stage of Truong Yen School, Olympians presented the play "The Sens of the Past," which not only showcased national pride but also deep love for this ancient land. In response to this sentiment, Truong Yen students also dedicated outstanding cultural performances.
It can be said that, by exploring on their own, observing, and experiencing, students can have knowledge from pages of books and lectures gradually imprinted deeper into their minds. This is also a great opportunity for students to have a perspective from the past to the present, thereby enhancing awareness and responsibility in preserving the images of the ancient capital, cherishing cultural values and beauty of the region in the current era of globalization and integration.
