"Pianist" Nguyen Dang Luong conquers 4 top universities in ireland

21 April, 2024

Recently, Nguyen Dang Luong, a 12th-grade student, was accepted into four prestigious universities in Ireland, including: Trinity College Dublin, ranked #1 in Ireland by USNews; University of Limerick, ranked #5; Maynooth University, ranked #7; National College of Ireland, ranked #16 in Ireland.

An outstanding student in Music, having won many awards at school and international levels, such as a Bronze Medal at the "Youth Friendship Festival 2022" in Singapore, Nguyen Dang Luong (Grade 12) surprised everyone by choosing to study Law at Trinity College Dublin. He shared that this decision stemmed from a deep passion for justice and an appreciation for the legal system that he has always been curious about and eager to explore since childhood.

"I have been fascinated by reading legal texts, watching law movies, and learning how society functions and how disputes are resolved to protect the rights of each individual. This passion was further fueled when I had the opportunity to participate in many Model United Nations conferences, the first one at Olympia with the English learning project - OLMUN, followed by competitions in various provinces and cities across the country. Through impersonating delegates from different countries and debating and finding solutions to international issues, I have honed many skills such as critical thinking, logical reasoning, presentation, and teamwork," shared the Olympian.

Starting the application process in December 2023, Nguyen Dang Luong felt quite pressured as many of his classmates had already received acceptance letters from universities. Instead of letting himself drown in peer pressure, he chose to turn it into motivation to "sprint" and was determined to complete his application perfectly. Choosing Europe and finding a "new" country that few Vietnamese students choose to go to - but still ranked in the top 100 universities in the world, Dang Luong then "stopped" at Trinity College Dublin.

This university, ranked #1 in Ireland and #81 in the world (according to QS World University Rankings 2024), has an admission rate of only 33.5%. Quite worried and having to "reserve" a few more schools, but in the end, Nguyen Dang Luong's application filled with MUN activities, debate competitions, and an essay highlighting his passion for pursuing Law conquered this prestigious university. He also received acceptance letters with scholarships from 3 other universities, also ranked top in quality in this country.

Coming to Olympia from grade 9, Nguyen Dang Luong said that he was "immersed" in many academic, artistic, and sports events and experienced many different roles such as: Organizing Committee of the Olympia RAP competition (2023-2024), Organizing Committee of the charity program in Hue for grade 11 (2022-2023), Outstanding Delegate of OLMUN (2021-2022), actor in musicals for the grade's learning project... These rich and unique experiences have helped him unlock his potential, discover his ability to debate and his deep passion for Law to make the final decision about the field of study he will pursue.

"Olympia is where I can be myself, understand myself, and get the motivation to develop on the path I want," shared the Olympian.

With 3 months left until leaving for Ireland and starting a new journey, Nguyen Dang Luong is actively working with his friends to prepare well for the high school graduation exam, as well as create more meaningful memories under the Purple School roof. In parallel, every afternoon after school, he takes the bus to an elementary school in Hanoi to teach piano to students from grades 1 to 5. The "pianist" Nguyen Dang Luong still maintains his artistic passion in different ways and uses it to bring useful values to the community.
