The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally-recognized educational system that focuses on developing students holistically, from the age of 3 to 19. In the IB's own words: "The aim is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people with adaptable skills to tackle society’s complex challenges and who will help to make it a better, more peaceful world." (International Baccalaureate, What is an IB Education?).
The IB has several programs for students at different age groups and stages of development, all revolving around a core, comprehensive learner profile, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The Olympia Schools is a PYP (age 3-12) and DP (age 16-19) candidate, with plans to open admissions for our first cohorts in 2023.Program details.pdf
The PYP is a concept-based, inquiry-based, trans-disciplinary curriculum framework designed for children aged 3-12. Our goal is to prepare students to become lifelong learners who embody the ten attributes of the IB Learner profile.See details
The DP is a two-year, comprehensive and rigorous program for students aged 16-19, focusing on a balanced curriculum that prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed for higher education, employment, and life. Students choose six subjects to study, along with the mandatory core subjects; and by satisfying necessary requirements, students will be awarded the IB DP Diploma, which is globally recognized by many universities.See details
Quality and Development
Schools and organizations must be authorized by the IB to become an IB Word School, in order to be able to offer any IB programme(s). This is a universal process for all schools, designed to make sure that they can implement the IB programme(s) successfully. All IB World Schools are continuously in a process of review and development, and they all follow the same programme standards and practices.
As part of our authorization process, The Olympia Schools is actively reviewing our entire sets of standards and practices to make sure they are in accordance with those of the IB, and our teachers are participating in IB Workshops to become qualified IB teachers.
The Olympia Schools is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme / Diploma Programme and pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
