18 September, 2023

In the 2023-2024 academic year, with a strong focus on enhancing English language proficiency among students, the Olympia teachers have planned various unique experiences for Olympians. Among them, the high school level will have the most “intensive” activities, designed to match the language skills accumulated during the primary and middle school years, while also providing a “leap” forward for Olympians to reach the most challenging areas of knowledge and competencies.

Specifically, high school students in this academic year will undergo diverse interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary learning projects. Among them, many projects have become "traditions" and are highly anticipated by students when participating in English language studies; some projects this year have been given a fresh new look, and notably, the number of cross-curricular projects involving English and other subjects will significantly increase.

In the academic year 2023-2024, there will be a multitude of interesting intradisciplinary and cross-curricular learning projects for high school Olympians in their English studies.

For grade 9 Olympians, they will engage in mini-research papers, collaborate to develop entrepreneurial plans, and seek investment in the Shark Tank program. These are undoubtedly wonderful experiences that will help them enhance their language skills, understanding of socio-economic aspects, critical thinking, research and creativity abilities, teamwork, and presentation skills.

Every year, grade 10 Olympians eagerly wait for their first OLMUN season-an activity simulating a United Nations conference, where high school students play the role of diplomats representing their country to discuss pressing global issues. This year, OLMUN has been renamed TOSMUN, expanded from a solely English-based activity to a cross-curricular project involving various subjects. Through this, high school Olympians can broaden their knowledge and delve deeper into global issues.

Olympia's Voice and Research paper are the two major projects for grade 11 Olympians. Senior students in grade 12 will experience the Legacy Project, an in-depth and well-structured research project with high output requirements.

Olympians in the International Diploma Program and IB-DP will embark on the musical project "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". This project encompasses Academic English, Literature, Language B, and CAS (creativity-activity-service) components. In the previous academic year, the musical "Les Misérables" by the International Program Olympians received significant acclaim within the school community and the media, becoming cherished memories and valuable lessons for the students

Well-known international and national English competitions, such as the Harvard Crimson Global Writing Competition, TSL Essay Competition, John Lock Institute Essay Competition, World Scholar's Cup, National Schools Debating Championship, and International Vietnam Model United Nations, are actively introduced and supported by teachers for high school Olympians.

"Take students out into the world and bring the world closer to students", The Olympia School will continue with reputable domestic and international competitions for students to participate in. Specifically, students of The Olympia High School can choose to participate in various competitions, while also organizing their own exciting and attractive contests.

For those who are interested in the model of the United Nations meeting, Olympia students can participate in competitions such as the International Vietnam Model United Nations (IVMUN), Hanoi Model United Nations (Hanoi MUN), Diplomatic Academic of Vietnam Model United Nations (DAV MUN), and more. Debate enthusiasts can join events like the World Scholar's Cup, National Schools Debating Championship, Hanoi Debate Tournament, Vietnam BP Championship, Olympia Schools Debate Championship, and others. Philosophy enthusiasts can take part in the Junior Philosophy Olympiad (for students from Grade 4 to Grade 9 nationwide), which was organized by Olympia in collaboration with reputable organizations such as National Geographic Learning Vietnam, the British Council in Vietnam, and Oxford University Press. Additionally, they can also participate in the International Philosophy Olympiad essay competition designed specifically for Olympians. International essay competitions such as the TSL Essay Competition, Harvard Crimson Global Writing Competition, and John Locke Institute Essay Competition are also platforms where Olympia High School students can test their skills in this academic year.

Moreover, to provide more opportunities for students to experiences, The Olympia Schools also organizes various exciting competitions, such as the International Philosophy Olympiad - a philosophical essay competition exclusively for Olympians, and the Junior Philosophy Olympiad - an English philosophy competition for students from grade 4 to grade 9, both within and outside the country.

Accompanied with these remarkable activities, in the 2023-2024 academic year, high school Olympians will continue to engage in the book translation project, research paper writing activities, the “Global read out loud” project, and participation in interesting English clubs.

At The Olympia High School, students have the opportunity to explore a unique subject known as 'Humanities (English for the Humanities).' In this course, students will gain comprehensive knowledge about history, culture, religion, art, politics, and more from various countries across continents. Through research, report writing, presentations, and various learning methods, Olympians will develop argumentative, analytical, and logical reasoning skills to assess and evaluate real-world social issues based on the knowledge they have acquired. They will also gain deeper insights into the world, form a worldview in relation to global issues, and enhance their academic abilities and global thinking.

With a broad and extensive overview spanning different historical periods and geographical spaces, Olympians from the high school will have a stronger foundation when stepping into the vast world. They will also cultivate understanding, tolerance, and the ability to perceive and evaluate historical and current issues.

These English projects, competitions, and experiences will give rise to numerous creative and unique products. Parents and teachers, please look forward to the outstanding achievements by our high school Olympians soon!
